Ausable River Camping

This is a beautiful spot but nearby campers were really loud and we could also hear dogs barking, from campsites down river, throughout our stay. It was very beautiful but the noise kind of ruined it for us because we like to really experience nature when we're out camping.

Great primitive camping sites. Sites further up the river are pristine. Other campers at sites on Cooke Dam pond have not been conscientious about their waste. Poison ivy has exploded over the area over the past 20 years.

A clean and quiet campsite - no complaints!

This was my very first time staying here off a recommendation from a friend and my group and I had a great time! The animals barely bothered us, very secluded and peaceful, very spacious sites so all around solid time. I will say the only thing that is much needed is picnic tables and maybe more frequent signs guiding you more accurately to sites (for reference we had site 71D Cooke Pond)

This is a really nice, large campsite. You do not have a great view of the river though. You feel alone in the woods though, the other sites are several hundred yards away. You can only barely hear anyone even if they are being loud. The walk to the river is either about a 100yards down the road then down a moderately sloped walk to the river where the bank isn't too tall and there are nice places to sit in a camp chair or swim in the river. The other option is to drive (<1/2mile) to the Whirlpool boat launch. There is a great sandy beach here. Great for fishing and swimming. However, you will see more traffic as this is a popular canoe launch.
Overall this site is great for what we wanted, seclusion and close access to the river. Don't come here if you are expecting to be 'on the river'.

Beautiful spot! It’s about a mile and a half to get back to the actual spot, the smaller the trailer the better because the path was pretty tight at times. Be sure to bring bug spray and I’d recommend mosquito netting if you want to be outside. Starlink connection wasn’t great because of the trees but you can get a little internet if you need it.

Love how the sites are so far apart from each other

Had a great time wind always comes from the water so pack warm for nights in spring and fall especially if you have an east facing site

The previous campers threw their left over food in the river right where you’d enter the water. They left broken beer bottles around the fire pit. There is also not much shade. The issues were reported. Horrible for those that don’t know how to treat Mother Nature.

best campsite ever. spacious , private , view was beautiful, etc. the only thing is when i try to book a spot it looks like the place is full but when i was there it was empty. thank you.
