I was looking for a peaceful vacation, that is exactly what I got. There is a little activity from sightseeing but overall it was excellent.

4th year in a row that we've come. Love the site! Cell reception is non-existent, but bringing a Star Link is recommended for internet. Will be back next year

This is our favorite primitive campsite. We like the crystal clear water, hiking around the lake, and privacy. There are often people coming to fish in this lake, so it’s not a true, remote destination with solitude.

The 2 mi of gravel road was really about 20. There was not ANY signs to mark campground or camp sight however the direction locator at the site manager got us to within a mile of location. The only reason whey we found site was the education center a 1/2 mi away which was marked was having a wedding that Saturday night. The people at the wedding had no idea about a camp nearby but the cooks did know and directed us. The only good thing besides the mystery and adventure was the bag of cookies the one cook gave us!

Beautiful spot, but our experienced was soured by a family that was at the site when we arrived. They were quite aggressive and insisted that it was a public beach. I get the impression that they do this often. Grass on the site was overgrown and the mosquitos were bad. I don't think I would stay here again. All that said, the lake was gorgeous and the stars were amazing.

Campsite and lake were excellent. Access into site was a bit dicy. Uneven and narrow but if your good at backing a trailer can be done. Only negative on trip was group of rude Side-by-side ATV riders. Drove in to boat launch and cranked music, yelled, screamed, and generally showed no courtesy whatsoever.

The campsite is very nice, private and beautiful location. The only difficult part is finding it since google maps does not take you directly to the location, make sure you read the reservation document that tells you exactly which forest road (FR) and which sub road like J, I, K is it located on. We had an amazing time, hope you do too.

Getting There
From M-28 in Shingleton: Head South on M-94 for 11 mi to Clear Lake Road (Forest Road 2246). Turn left and follow for 3 mi to FR 2246J (on the left).
From US HWY 2 in Manistique: Head North on M-94 for 24 mi to Clear Lake Road (Forest Road 2246)....
From M-28 in Shingleton: Head South on M-94 for 11 mi to Clear Lake Road (Forest Road 2246). Turn left and follow for 3 mi to FR 2246J (on the left).
From US HWY 2 in Manistique: Head North on M-94 for 24 mi to Clear Lake Road (Forest Road 2246). Turn left and follow for 3 mi to FR 2246J (on the left).
Highway access
The Clear Lake Campsite is accessible via M-94, which connects with M-28 in Shingleton and US HWY 2 in Manistique, both of which are major roads in the area.
Policies & Rules
General
- Pack-In, Pack-out policy
- There is a 14-day stay limit.
- No drinking water provided.
- Campsite must be occupied the first night.
- Campsite cannot be left unattended for more than 24 hours.
- You are welcome to collect firewood from the area surrounding your campsite. Just remember that any firewood that you collect must be DEAD AND DOWN

- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood.
