I am forever baffled at the lack of sites that are available on the reservation site but when we arrive, no one seems to be using those sites. Something needs to give here. I get the feeling that people are reserving the sites for prime day use (weekend use) and then cancelling their use at the last minute so to be sure that they have a reservation. If you are allowing people to reserve sites on prime days then I don't think you need to give refunds so close to arrival dates. Give them a two week period. Anything closer then they should not get a refund. And if they try to get a refund, open the site up immediately for other's use. Let's be fair. If sites are in demand, then make people PAY! I am tired of abusers. Let's face it, in any system, you have abusers. Make them PAY!

I mixed up my dates and arrived a day late. I didn't realize it until the next people arrived wanting their spot. I had to bug out with no notice. The park and new tenants were very understanding and patient. And they got a nights worth of fire wood for their wait.

We have been going to federal dam for 9 years. The marina makes it is a great place to take a boat. Always have good fishing. Well run place.

From Grand Rapids, Minnesota, take Highway 2 west for 33 miles to Bena. Turn south onto County Road 8 and proceed 8 miles to Federal Dam.
From Bemidji, Minnesota, take Highway 2 east for 35 miles to Bena, Turn south onto County Road 8 and proceed 8 miles to Federal Dam.
From Walker, Minnesota, take Highway 200 east for 20 miles to County Road 8. Turn north onto County Road 8 and proceed 14 miles to Federal Dam.

- Check in on or after the first date of your reservation.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Vehicles & parking
- Park vehicles and trailers on campsite pads or designated areas; tents must be on the campsite pad.
- No ATVs, UTVs, or motorized scooters are permitted in the campground.
Pets
- Keep pets leashed and clean up after them immediately.

- Swimming is prohibited at boat ramps, docks, and the mooring canal.
Fires & fuel
- Use only certified firewood; unauthorized firewood may be removed and destroyed.
- Buy firewood locally and burn it on-site to prevent pests; visit the provided website for info.
