What Guests Are Saying
Voyageurs National Park offers stunning scenery, spacious and well-maintained campsites, and a variety of wildlife sightings, making it a fantastic destination for camping. The reservation system is convenient, though some users find it cumbersome and prefer the old method of finding campsites. Despite minor inconveniences like overgrown trails and occasional maintenance issues, visitors report enjoyable experiences and express eagerness to return.

I had no problem obtaining my permit and had a great time, but why is it so expensive? $40 a night for pretty much 0 amenities is absolutely ridiculous.

Recreation.gov made the reservation process easy. We reserved a back country campsite at Voyageurs NP and I really appreciated the email reminders with important info like when to print my permit, reservation dates and local park information pertinent to my visit. This was also the only site with good pictures of the campsite.

We loved our first of many trips to Voyageurs National Park. I chose this campsite because we have a toddler and dogs who love the water, and this one had a beach. The first two days were chilly, so we stayed out of the water, but falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the rocks around us was surreal. By the last two days, the weather warmed up and we enjoyed plenty of sun, sand, and splashing around—just a few steps from our tent.
The beach was beautiful, though it did collect some debris, weeds, and patches of green algae at times. We always tied the pontoon off at three points to keep it from drifting into the rocks on the north end of the inlet. Our large tent fit perfectly on the tent pad closest to the campfire, and I loved that there were three additional pads available—perfect for when we bring a bigger group next time.
The bear boxes were plentiful and made storing our gear, food, and miscellaneous items at night and before heading out on the water quick and easy. The fire pit with a grate was ideal for cooking, and the outhouse was impressively well kept. The island itself was lively, with fishing happening consistently throughout our stay.
The wildlife made the trip even more memorable—we watched deer swim, saw raccoons creeping through the night with their beady eyes, and even heard moose bellowing in the distance. The leaves were just starting to turn, the fishing was slow, but as always, time in the wilderness beats any day in the office. We truly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to explore more islands and campsites in the future.

Beautiful site, we would definitely stay here again. Decent canoe ride from Rainy Lake on a calm day. View of some busy waters.
Details: Large site at a slight incline from the dock. Small partial/shallow cove, large dock, pit toilet (not very private as open side faces one of the primary tent pad), 4 tent pads, great northern views, high fire ring, two picnic tables (one that's very bent), and 3 bear boxes (one waist high, two low). No large game sightings, but some great for bird watching, frogs, spiders, small game, etc. Site has a very large open area around the fire ring, tent pads are arranged 3 around that, with a fourth tucked behind another. Can view North, NW, NE, and E easily.

The campsite was great. Plenty of room to walk about and the view was awesome. Plenty of downed wood for nightly fires. Fishing wasn't too good but, probably weather.
