What Guests Are Saying
Sandy Lake is a well-maintained campground with clean facilities, friendly staff, and a variety of activities, making it a favorite for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The large, quiet sites and beautiful surroundings enhance the camping experience, while the convenient access to boating and swimming is a significant plus. Some visitors noted issues with campsite proximity and minor facility improvements, but the overall atmosphere is inviting and enjoyable.

Very nice camping area and beach. Clean bathhouse and playgrounds.
Dumpsters for trash are kinda far or I just didn’t find the ones for my camp area.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay at SPOI, Tent 4. This was our first time having a walk in campsite, and with this one being only 100 ft from the parking area, it was a great one to try. We will definitely consider a short walk in campsite again in the future. This site had nice views of the lake and was a short walk away from a fishing dock which also had a nice view. Unfortunately, the only way to access the fishing dock is to walk through all the walk in campsite areas in the south unit, so there may be people walking past your tent and campsite if you choose SPOI, Tent 4. The campsite was spacious and was quiet since there were trees between this campsite and the Tent 3 campsite. The parking spot was tight, so if you have a larger vehicle you may want to consider parking near the bathrooms. We didn't have a problem with an SUV - we just really used our mirrors, our back up camera, and looked over our shoulders to avoid hitting other vehicles and campsites. The bathrooms (in the south unit) have flushable toilets and showers for both men and women. There is also a single stall unisex/accessible bathroom with a shower. There were several nice walking areas to check out (the dam, several lake accesses with docks, and the Mississippi River). The only downside we experienced was the office was closed when we arrived (a little after 6 PM on a Friday). Normally, this isn't a big deal to us when we camp at a state park, but after seeing cars with camping passes on their dash/hanging on their rearview mirror, we figured we better find out where we needed to go to get a pass. We found the campground host (site 22 located in the north unit not far from the dam) who was able to check us in and get us a pass to display on our vehicle.

Oddly arranged campground where it’s separated by an impassable dam. We were on the north side and it wasn’t great. The sites were fine, but the deer flies were so bad we couldn’t go outside, it was a long walk to the bathhouse, and the water at the dump station on our side was just a small elevated tank of water that didn’t have enough pressure to even attempt flushing out our tank. I wouldn’t stay here again.
