It was OK. Our site was large enough to accommodate our group. It was clean. It wasn't close to the lake. That was a little disappointing. It met our needs.

The campground was beautiful, but someone was playing music very loud until 2AM in the morning which was very disturbing and making it impossible to sleep.

Beautiful sites, offering plenty of space and privacy. Very clean, quiet and remote campground. Clean vaults. Site 27 was spacious and private although it is not set up to allow for your camper door to face the fire pit and table. My husband managed to make it work out (with the fire pit behind the rear of the camper).
Almost all of the lakeside sites are above the lake rather than at lake level. Still, very beautiful views. There is a BWCA canoe outfitter at the campground where you can rent canoes and gear as well as cold drinks, coffee, snacks, ice cream bars, and souvenirs. You can also get a shower for a small fee. The store has a flush toilet- we were careful not to abuse this little luxury with overuse. The vaults were just fine.
There is no swimming beach and the shoreline is rocky. You might be able to take a dip at the boat launch. There are no established trails here, but we found a nice section to walk along the lake shore.
You can expect several miles of gravel roads to get to the campground, much of it washboardy.
We are already looking forward to our next visit!

The campground is located north of Tofte, Minnesota. Travel to Tofte via Highway 61 along Lake Superior's north shore. In Tofte, turn north (away from Lake Superior) on Sawbill Trail (CCHS 2). Follow Sawbill Trail 24 miles until it ends at the entrance to the campground.
Sawbill Lake Campground is accessible via Highway 61, which runs along Lake Superior's north shore. From Highway 61, travelers can reach the campground by turning onto Sawbill Trail.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
