What Guests Are Saying
South Abutment Campground is praised for its clean, well-maintained sites, peaceful atmosphere, and quiet surroundings, making it an ideal getaway for relaxation. Many visitors appreciate the spacious, paved sites with full hookups, and the area's natural beauty, despite some concerns about low water levels in the lake. However, issues such as occasional power outages, outdated bathroom facilities, and a lack of staff presence have been noted.

Upon arriving, there was no host to get any information from. Once you come in, there's only one sign that tells you which campsites are in which direction. Once you get down to the area, there are no more signs telling you where to go for whatever campsite you have. The roads are a bit narrow and could use some work. There are lots of bumps and cracks on the roads. The original campsite that I had reserved was not going to fit us, it was to small and I'm guessing the water pipe has a leak because there was a decent sized muddy puddle around it, so I had to switch campsites. Some sites are level, and others need some work. Pretty campground. Most of the campsites I've seen so far have water, electric and sewage, which is really nice! The bathrooms were pretty dirty when I walked in them earlier, not something I plan to use. I do understand trying to get yard work done early, however, weed eating next to my camper at 7:15 in the morning just was not okay. The water is extremely low, so there is no way to get to it from what I can tell. After doing some research, the Arkabulta dam needs repairs done, so they lowered the water to relieve some of the stress on the dam. It will take years for the repairs to be done, so I'm assuming that means no water during that time. Just a heads up for those who like to fish and those of us who like water activities. I've seen a lot of random vehicles coming through the campground. I'm not sure why, but it def gives me an uneasy feeling.

Overall nice, but a bit difficult to find a spot for a tent, since most spots are meant for RVs. We were woken up by the noise of several workers mowing the lawn at 7am, which is not quite ok for a relaxing camping experience out in nature. Pieces of grass got all over our tent and things left outside.
Bathrooms were clean and well maintained.

Nice campground close by Memphis (thus great place to stay with an RV or tent if you're planning for a day-trip into the city). Because it's located on a rather secluded location, it was a very quiet and relaxing campground.
The only downside was that the restrooms were not properly cleaned and maintained.

My first COE campground and I was not disappointed! Even with construction and having arrived after hours, it was easy to find my space. I had a site with electric and water. I got settled quickly, took my dog for a walk and we encountered some deer! Hardly anyone there, so it was peaceful! I checked out the restroom/shower house, everything was clean and in good order. This is a route I have to travel often so I will be back again!
