South Abutement Campground was a pretty campground. Our site was fine except for a little bit of trash left behind from past campers. It had full hook-ups. The views of the Arkabutla Lake are wonderful and the campground is fairly large. The problem was that we rarely saw any rangers or hosts. There is no one managing this place and making sure campers are acting responsibly. The bathhouses are pretty outdated with some showers not functioning at all but are cleaned fairly regularly. We had a family member who has mobility issues and needed to use the bathhouse and the shower stall was less than adequate. The town of Hernando has many shops & restaurants that were good and Memphis is not too far away.

We enjoy coming to Arkabutla because it is close by. We enjoy meeting others that come also. The sites are far enough apart and the full hook-ups are nice now.

Had a great stay at the south abutment campground. The two drawbacks were that the lake was low. The lake was so low and you could visually see it get lower as my stay went on. I’m sure it would be more beautiful if the water level was up. Also the minor other drawback was the camp road is very rough the ripples in it could knock a bicyclist off the seat of his or her bike. Otherwise the stay was very good. Want to do again in the same place.
Lakeside spot! Spot # 57.
