Lights at bathroom were on timer and dark for most of night. Came on sometime in middle of night. Lake was drained and no water. Not well maintained site or facilities.

Hernando point is one of my go to campgrounds. It’s halfway between Wisconsin and Florida and I’ve been stopping here twice a year for the last eight years and I will continue to do it.

We were in the middle of a terrible thunderstorm with flash flooding just up the road when I arrived, through no fault of Hernando Point Campground. However, I had camped there before, knew pretty much where I was going, and thankfully knew I could count on everything being in place — and it was. I knew from past experience that if there was any imminent danger, that peace officers would be in place to evacuate campers. And I was correct!

I have stayed at Hernando Point Campground many times enroute to/from vacations to the southern coast. It’s easy to get to, has great local amenities, clean restrooms, a beautiful setting, and wonderful campsites overlooking Arkabutla Lake. Once when I stayed in the park the campground was under a tornado warning. I was impressed with the manner that the park service snd local sheriff’s office coordinated to ensure safety of the campers. I keep thinking that, rather than just passing through, I’m going to take a trip and make Hernando Point Campground my destination. It’s a beautiful setting to relax and spend a little time.

Spot 57 needs the power pole fixed. That was the spot we reserved, but it wasn’t working so we had to change spots. There have been several improvements done in the last few years since we’ve been coming, and things look much better than they did 3 years ago! There was trash left around spot 83. The one we stayed in. I’m sure you can’t control that much, but there must be camp hosts that can clean the sites.
