We loved this park. It was totally carefree, no checking in. Just drive to your reserved site and pull in. The views are outstanding and it’s a peaceful quiet park.

This time of year it is wonderful at Hernando Point! No children and campground not full! Gorgeous Bald Eagle watching us from trees next to us.

Beautiful park with great waterfront views. Nicely maintained.
Memphis is a short drive away, and there are many points of interest well within a reasonable distance. Check out Graceland and Jerry Lee's home!
Overall, the park is wonderful, and very peaceful. I would think, however, that there would be some sort of oversite.

We stayed the last two weeks of March. During this time we had no contact whatsoever with anyone from the campground. During a bad storm / tornado event the local Sheriff came around to make sure we moved from the lakefront to a safely location (an EF-2 touched down within 6 miles of us), but no-one from the campground checked on us at all.
Compared to North Abutment, this location felt a bit run down and not as well cared for. Hiking trails are marked on a notice board, but are completely impassable.
Cell service is very limited on the waterfront and non-existent further back.

Most of the campsites are nicely spaced out. Phone service is weak and internet almost non-existent on Verizon. Showers were decent. Good location if you are looking peaceful setting and not feeling closed in.
