Baxter Campground is highly praised for its beautiful scenery, well-maintained facilities, and clean restrooms, making it a favorite for many returning visitors. Campers appreciate the spacious sites, peaceful atmosphere, and helpful staff, contributing to a relaxing experience. We have been boating and camping at Baxter for almost 20 years now and this season has been rough. Flooding, minimal camp host presence, now no maintenance staff anymore. Baxter was great, but seems to be dropping fast. cars and boas all over the grass this past weekend could hardly pull through the site. There is nobody checking the sites anymore or cleaning up. I'm sure there are reasons especially with the flooding closing half the site for the season, but we really miss the days of having camp hosts that engaged with people in the park and made sure boats and additional vehicles were parked at the boat ramp lot or at least not blocking half the road, and friendly maintenance that did a good job and would stop and chat with you. We had that for a long time at Baxter, but that unfortunately seems to be changing for the worse.

Nice campground, we just picked one of the hottest weeks to be there. Beautiful lakeside campgrounds with decent spacing between sites.

For over fifty wonderful years, my familyβmy parents, sibling, husband, and our boys along with their familiesβhas cherished our visits to Baxter campsite. Weβve created so many lovely memories during this time, and we truly value every moment spent here. Recently, though, weβve noticed a bit of a drop in maintenance, which I think might be due to the recent flooding. Weβre really hoping that when we come back, the flood debris will be cleared away nicely.
We did find the restrooms to be quite clean, which we appreciated, but the state of the campsites could use a little extra love. We came across some litter on our site that we felt needed our attention to clean up, and there were quite a few flies buzzing around, which was a bit bothersome in the area that needed to be cleared. Plus, we noticed there werenβt any trash receptacles near the dump station, making it a little tricky to get rid of our rubber gloves and personal items. And the water hose being turned off didnβt help either, as it limited our efforts to clean up the dump area after use.
While these might seem like small issues, I really believe itβs important for all of us to work together to keep the beautiful standards of our Corps of Engineers' National Parks high, ensuring that future generations can enjoy them just as much as we do!

We enjoyed our time at the Baxter campground. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The lake was very high and flooded the lower campground so the lower loop was closed for camping. However, it allowed campers to have access to the water other than at the swim beach. I saw people swimming and fishing in the empty camping spots. One of the maintenance men also helped us when our electric awning stopped working and we needed a ladder and a drill in order to close it manually (he said he does this a few times a month!). We booked this last minute and were happy to find a spot that was relaxing and quiet. We enjoyed the sunsets over the water and cooking our dinners on the campfire grill. We will definitely be returning.

Very clean and well organized park. A lot of time and designing of each camp spot can be seen in the details.
