Ray Behrens is a scenic campground and recreation area, conveniently located on the southeastern shores of Mark Twain Lake. Here, visitors can enjoy the perks of the campground, go boating on the lake or explore the area's historic attractions. Twain, the legendary author, was born in a village beside the lake and grew up in a town about 20 miles down the road.

We love the Mark Twain Lake area and always stay at Ray Behrens campground. Black Jack Marina, located at the entrance to the campground, had boat rentals and a small restaurant. The campground is always clean (including bathrooms) and beautifully maintained. The campsites are spacious with plenty of open areas for the kids to play in. There is also a playground in both the Deer Run and Little Blue Stem loops. There are several small trails in the campground if you want a little adventure.
There is a small camp store just outside the main entrance to the campground where you can get groceries, camping supplies, fishing supplies, bait, firewood, fuel and even fill your propane tanks.

We always love staying in Cedar Ridge at Ray Behrens, but this year the shower house situation has gotten pretty bad. The handheld shower head in the handicap stall was completely broken off, the other stall's faucet leaked constantly. The floors had a green tint to them almost like a mold/mildew was growing on them. We've been coming down to Ray Behrens for many years and they used to have a cleaning crew that would come in and actually pressure wash the shower houses down and they would look great after that. Now they just have cleaners that come in every few days and throw a little solution on the floor and swish it around with a mop.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
