It was confusing for my family reunion guests that the campground was called "Boomtown" but there was not signage to indicate that name. Google does not recognize it either.
I was a little disappointed that there was no communication regarding the status of the shelter.
There was also no communication regarding the "Reserved" signage at the entrance of the campground. Who was supposed to update that signage? We were told we didn't have a reservation because our name was not on the signage. Luckily, we had no problems.
For as many emails as I received making sure I was keeping my reservation, it would have been nice to have the same communication regarding the actual campsite.
We did have a nice reunion in spite of all the snags. We appreciate having had a site big enough to fit all of us. The view of the lake was great. But we will think twice about our location for our next reunion. Good communication is key to great reviews.

There is an enclosed shelter that has power in it and other amenities. It requires a code for the door lock. We could not get the code from any State Park Official. They just kept passing us off to someone else that would not answer phone. So we camped 4 nights with no access to the shelter.
Also there is no power at the camp sites. Also confusing where it is because there is no reference to "Boomtown" except at on the web site for Fort Peck camp ground, so difficult knowing that you are in the right spot.

From Glasgow: head south on MT-42 S/State Hwy 24 W and continue onto MT 24 S for 15 miles. Turn right into the Boomtown recreation area. (just before Hwy 117 turnoff). Shelter area is the first right.
From Nashua: Take MT-117 S to Hwy 24. Turn right for .1 miles. Boomtown Recreation area is on the left approximately .1 mile. Shelter area is the first right.
From MT-200: Take MT-24 N for 59.6 miles. Turn right into Boomtown Recreation area. Shelter area is the first right.
Boomtown Shelter is accessible via MT-24, a state highway that connects to MT-42 S and MT-117 S. The nearest major road access is approximately 15 miles from Glasgow via MT-42 S.

2 mi drive to downtown Fort Peck (about 5 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- The shelter house was destroyed in the fall of 2024. It is the plan to replace it as funds become available. The area is still reservable, but there is no shelter house or electric grill available at this time.
- All public-use of Ft. Peck Project lands and waters is governed by Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) .
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water.
