The good:
Nice accommodations with electricity and heat, indoor plumbing and full kitchen. The kitchen was amazing with all the labeled doors. Good for families.

Cool newer rustic designed furniture in the bedrooms.

Nice grounds and short walking areas.

I have Verizon & was able to get full 4G coverage.

Good amount of cleaning supplies.

Next to the $50,000 Dollar Bar & Inn for meals and alcohol. Convenient to the seasonal Hiawatha Bike Trail.

Nice to have dumpsters on site to dump your trash after staying here. So many Forest Service rentals leave you stuck hauling your trash around until you find a trash can.

Interesting architectural features.

Pamphlets were in desk drawer to provide a guided tour of the grounds.

The bad:
Nursery museum sadly was closed for the season while we were there. We would have liked to see. Maybe the Forest Service can arrange it so that when renters stay they can get a key from the campground host to view.

Heavy cooking grease smell upon entry. Bring Air freshener.

Forest Service rentals rely on people cleaning up after themselves. From our experience the bigger the place the less clean it is upon arrival and this was no exception. There was hair in the tub, urine and feces markings in the toilet.

The bath mat smelled so bad we did not even touch it. It really should just be thrown away. Nice to have a hot shower but hardly any pressure and you got to play with the cold water to not get burned or chilled.

At $88 after all fees to rent you may want to consider a nearby fire lookout (Seasonal) if available. The $50,000 Dollar Inn next door is only a little more and has a TV and WiFi and you don't have to clean when you leave.

Next to the interstate but noise to us was not an issue.

We only stayed here due to needing a place with showers after a family Hiawatha bike ride.

It may be worth it to stay here one time but we can't see staying here again. Not horrible but there are better options out there.

This cabin is very comfortable with easy and quick access to the Hiawatha Trail, and for a bit longer drive access to the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene.

Neat and clean with a well organized kitchen. Could use some work on the iceberg forming at the driveway access. No TV or internet so bring a book. Overall a nice place to stay.

We went to the cabin during the perfect time! It snowed a ton and we had a blast snowshoeing, throwing snow balls and making snow angels. The compound is absolutely beautiful. The trees are breathtaking- make sure to explore the trailheads near the cookhouse.

Beautiful place to stay. Very clean, nicely furnished with more amenities than I've ever had in a Historic rental. Whoever setup the West Cottage did a nice job. Appreciated the organization of the kitchen, the games in the closet, and the novels in the desk drawer. The hiking trails in the area with the fall colors were so nice. Will definitely go back...more to explore. Little bit of hwy noise but it did quiet down after bedtime.
