About Court Sheriff Campground

Court Sheriff Campground is located at the very north end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, 30 mi east of Helena, Montana, along Montana Highway 284. Court Sheriff Campground offers year-round access to a wide range of recreational opportunities. Court Sheriff Campground is named for the Sheriff family. In 1865 Court Sheriff moved into the region from the state of Illinois to Montana to work the mines. Court Sheriff first worked the mines in Diamond City, then hired on as a carpenter to help build a wooden flume for the Magpie-Gave Hill ditch. In 1875 he opened a general mercantile to serve the miners east of the Missouri River at Cavetown. He moved to nearby Canyon Ferry in 1880, and by 1883 had established a general store and later added a livery stable and two-and-a-half-story hotel.

Very nice campground with pit toilets - trash service is available. The Volunteer Campground Host was friendly and
helpful. ONLY DOWNSIDE: one is REQUIRED to make a site reservation ONLINE ONLY - THEN an ADDITONAL CHARGE
OF $8 is ADDED to the site cost total. THIS $8 "reservation fee" is EXCESSIVE AND ANNOYING! IF any "reservation fee"
is charged (and is non negotiable for this campground) it should be NO MORE than $4 a reservation.

Camp host bent over backwards to help me. I came in late no reservations. They checked to see if They had a vacancy as the website was unavailable. Staff found that they had one site available. Took very good care of me. Would definitely come back again.

Wonderful campground right on the lake. Late checkout was much appreciated. There were many deer hanging out on my campsite when I arrived late at night but they left me alone the next day
