About White Earth Campground

White Earth Group Use Shelter is located at White Earth Campground, just east of the town of Winston, Montana, on Canyon Ferry Reservoir. In 1805, the Lewis and Clark expedition passed through this region. On July 22, 1805, Sacagawea recognizes the country and assures the men that the three forks of the Missouri were of no great distance. This news gave the expedition hope in the anticipation of soon reaching the headwaters of the Missouri River.

Nice campground at the lake. Little moskitos. We enjoyed to take a bath in the lake. There is a short gravel road to the campground.

We host an annual camping trip for about 75 family members, and this was the 5th of 7 years that we have been at White Earth and hope to be back next year. The spot is perfect for our extended family - it gives everyone room to spread out but still be close.

The pavilion near the water is perfect so those who want to be in the water can and those who want to be in the shade can - and everyone is still close and together.

The host was great this year.

We loved this campground and so did our dog. Played in the water. Arrived on a Wednesday about 4 pm, left Thursday later AM. Traveling through. The host was friendly and bathrooms very clean, not smelly. Dry campground with swimming and boat launch. Did not use generator, slight breeze in the evening off lake, had windows open. No shade though. Its beautiful with mountains and lake that surround the campground. 8 other campers there out of 33 sites. It’s about 15 minute drive on dirt road off the main highway. Well worth the $18 and we will go back again.

Very clean site, Bob runs a tight ship, one of the cleanest bathroom facilities seen.

Camp host was great. Sites to the south were not as level as those in the northern loop. We just did a quick overnight, so only walked on the beach. It was a good place to launch boats and kayaks. Our dog enjoyed the light surf. We will return if we are back in the area.

I have camped here several times this year. This is a very clean and well maintained campground. Bob the camp host always swings by to greet me with a big smile and a fun conversation. He is always doing rounds making sure the bathrooms and grounds are very tidy. Thanks Bob.
