About White Earth Campground

White Earth Group Use Shelter is located at White Earth Campground, just east of the town of Winston, Montana, on Canyon Ferry Reservoir. In 1805, the Lewis and Clark expedition passed through this region. On July 22, 1805, Sacagawea recognizes the country and assures the men that the three forks of the Missouri were of no great distance. This news gave the expedition hope in the anticipation of soon reaching the headwaters of the Missouri River.

First we got there and someone was in our spot! First we couldn't find them and then when we did they didn't want to move! So I attempted to make several phone calls to several different numbers. I left messages with all of them and got no reply back from anyone. After getting the people to move from our spot they left a mad! There was no campground host all weekend. And the dumpsters were overflowing and smelled very bad. The memories sure could have been better. Thank god for my family and grandchildren!

No Camp host this year. It’s kind of a free for all down there now. We camp here multiple times every year and this year wasn’t great.

I’m gonna start off with the positive1st, it’s very beautiful there! The mountain range with the lake is quite wonderful. Now with the negative, when I showed up there, it was very busy. The park never got quiet, even after 10 o’clock, noisy campers until midnight. 6 AM over 30 boats drove by a top speed, and noisy morning neighbors/campers. Maybe this reflects going on the weekend, I’d recommend trying it during the week. But it was like being an amusement park. Now I worked a long shift the day before, and drove all day the day before that so all I wanted was peace and quiet. I woke up the next morning and I canceled for the first time my second night. For the park, the spots are very close by and there’s no coverage, there’s literally you’re very close to the next camper or tent. I’ll have to say they do have decent bathrooms besides having a lock on the outdoor which was weird to me. I’ve been to almost a dozen campsites, and I’ve never had that before. I think that it was only worth my time and money to see the view of the mountain rage. There’s tons of other great parks in Montana, so I will not be returning. I hope you have a better experience and you can’t win them all:)

Bathrooms were clean, the entire campground was kept clean from garbage and it was quiet. No shade, but nice campground anyway! We liked the boat dock at the launch.

This campground is a convenience for me as I like to camp and fish without traveling from home. I really do appreciate the "volunteer" camp hosts. They always keep the cans clean. My only beef would be is that they seem to be very concerned about the grass that was dead or dying. My wife was told to move her truck because it was parked on the grass! All of one tire!!! She moved it over slightly to appease the grass cop. I get it. Now, when we pulled the boat over to the ramp, we noticed 2 trucks with empty trailers completely on the grass right next to the camp hosts RV! WT?? My observations..... 1. The weeds are out of control and makes it hard to see the edge of the parking area and are good cover for snakes (ya, there are rattlesnakes out there). 2. Any grass the crawls into the graveled parking area should not be considered Bonafide endangered species that warrants a ticket from the grass cop. 3. The parking areas really do need to be a bit wider to accommodate 2 rigs comfortably next to each other. Just my thoughts.

Very nice and attended campgrounds clear sky there. One thing that I stayed close to the trash area due to the warmth weather I could smell the rotten garbage. That’s all
