About Lake Alva Campground

Lake Alva Campground is located on the North shore of Lake Alva, approximately 11 mi north of Seeley Lake, and offers visitors the chance to camp and enjoy activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.  The lake is home to a loon population and has protected nesting areas. The birds' mesmerizing calls can often be heard in the campground. All boats on Lake Alva must operate at a "no-wake" speed year-round.

What Guests Are Saying

Lake Alva Campground is praised for its beautiful, clean, and well-maintained facilities, offering a peaceful environment ideal for families and outdoor activities like kayaking. Campers appreciate the spacious sites and proximity to the serene lake, although some noted challenges with tent space and access to potable water. While there were minor issues with restroom maintenance and the presence of unleashed dogs, overall experiences have been positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

The lake itself is wonderful and listening to the loons during the night is worth the stay. There's the classic, engraved, wooden sign showing the roads and sites when entering the campground and a water hydrant that is obviously out of service. What you don't know is where to find potable water. There was no notice on the board or notation on the map. It's not easy to find if you roll into camp late and need to pitch a tent before night fall, etc. There were no camp hosts. My site didn't have a nice flat place for a tent except right next to the fire pit, where the ground is really dusty. People were mostly respectful of the quiet hours and this place is busy with lots of families staying for several days at a time, so it seemed to me. Great location, no helpful person on site, no clearly marked map showing potable water access.

During stage 2 restrictions, a camper near us got a visit from forest service water tender who “doused” their campfire! It was awesome! Clean restrooms and nice campgrounds

The campground was easy to find, close to Lake Seeley, and quiet. The pit toilets were clean. The lake was clear, though I would recommend footwear or water socks, as the rocks were challenging to walk on. We were unable to have a fire, but we enjoyed the extra long picnic table for our cookstove. I enjoyed hiking at Morrel Falls, Holland Falls, and Glacier Lake trails, which were all nearby.

We had a great time at Lake Alva. When we were ready to leave, the truck would not start. We had to leave our camper there for two nights and the Forrest Service was very accommodating and we were able to pick up the camper two nights later. We love the quiet at Lake Alva. I just hope they do not cut down anymore trees.

We love Lake Alva. What do we love; the loons, no fast boats, the tall pines and friendly people.
Beautiful area with some good hiking but make sure you have your bear spray!!! This time we did a hike to Glacier Slough, easy hike to a beautiful spot.
