I recently visited Apgar campground while on my bike packing trip. While bike packing I am very reliant on electrical devices for 1) phone, 2) route computer, 3) satellite communicator, 4) bike lights 5) backup power bank. Hence finding places to charge is of primary concern. Notes:
1. I was very grateful for the hiker / biker sites at Apgar Campground.
2. The hiker / biker sites do not have electrical supply. I would happily pay a higher camping fee in order to have access to electricity while at a hiker/biker site.
3. The Apgar visitor center does have a public charging station but it is very slow. I sat there for 3 hours and only charged my power bank from 50 to 80%. This may seem minor but my cycling route would have me camping/ away from towns for 4 days and I needed this charge.
4. Park rangers would not assist me by charging my power bank inside the visitor center.
5. Apgar campground bathrooms do have electricity but it feels very creepy for a middle aged man to be loitering about the bathroom while devices charge.
6. I searched for other outlets to charge - such as at the amphitheater, but outlet covers with locked shut.
7. Apgar Village restaurants were helpful but given how busy they were, I could only get partial charge there as well.
8: Take home point: hiker/bikers need better access to charging electrical devices.
9. Kindling; I purchased and carried sans-car wood from Apgar Village to the campground. However, the stores had no kindling and the NPS does not allow collection of any wood / kindling. The camp host did not have kindling for sale. Difficult situation. Please provide some access to kindling for those of us without cars / capacity to carry anything more that basic camping supplies.
Thank you

Beautiful Campground - Host were wonderful. The Ranger at the park also each night walked the campground to remind us of special talks at the Ampitheater.

The campground itself is generally adequate, but this site has serious issues. Unlike many of the other sites in the campground, there's no provided tent pad. The space that is available is cramped, sloped, and covered in gravel. Additionally, the site sits at the bottom of a depression. Thankfully it was dry when I was there but I would not want to be present when it rains. The campfire ring has no grate for cooking. There are no bear lockers at the site.
My only substantive complaint about the campground is that there are only 3 shower stalls for 190ish sites.

Great camping location and area. Nice stores/cafe near by. Large sites! Very nice ranger presentation.
Bathrooms so so.. didn’t check out the showers.
We went around south of park to come in east side so we didn’t have to reserve a vehicle time to get on ‘going to the sun’ road.
But no electric

Stayed there for a night, nice set up and close to the village and Macdonald Lake. Visited the beach, just walking distance from the campground.
Our site C153 was wide enough for our 25-foot long motorhome. No services but it was expected given it is a National Park. Showers available but just four in loop A for the entire campground…but it came as a surprise so not complaining!
It was relatively quiet but quite normal that folks have fun on a Saturday night but nothing crazy.
I would return for a few days next time!
