What Guests Are Saying
Fish Creek Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting near Lake McDonald, with clean facilities, hot showers, and friendly camp hosts. Many guests appreciate the campground's proximity to the lake and hiking trails, making it a convenient base for exploring Glacier National Park. While some sites are noted for their lack of privacy and noise from neighboring campers, overall, visitors enjoy the peaceful ambiance and stunning natural surroundings, making it a favored spot for camping.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Fish Creek campground. Our campsite was a good size and the other people camping around us were quiet and respectful, for the most part. I noticed park staff regularly attending to the bathroom and generally patrolling and keeping their eye on things. We attended an evening ranger program one evening, which was very well done and informative. The Apgar Visitor center is nearby with a large parking lot, just right for parking all day and catching the shuttle to go up the road to explore other areas. I highly recommend taking the shuttle so you don't have to stress about finding parking, especially at Avalanche and Logan Pass. Plus, then you get to see so much more.

If you are in a van/camper, make sure your site is somewhat level. We had a very difficult time attempting to level and were unsuccessful. If you are in a tent, the pads are great.

Wow. This pull thru campsite was on the wrong side for everything on our tailer and you can't tell much from their pictures because they were done with snow on the ground. On C loop there are 2 bathrooms which means, for men, 2 comodes and 2 urinals to service like 50+ campsites. Not enough. They have removed ALL of the grills from the campfire rings so forget campfire cooking. Reason given: attracting bears. Oh really? And dumpster odors within the campground DON'T attract bears? And then there is the no wood from the ground used in your fire rule. I guess they want it to burn really well once a wildfire does start there (or one of their "control burns" doesn't stay controlled) . For some reason only A loop rates the privilege of having showers,
Camping here was necessary because we were going to Glacier which is wonderful and beautiful but the camping at Fish Creek was a detractant from it. I have learned to not expect much at NPS campgrounds and this one delivered.

I like this campground a lot. The sites all have a decent flat spot for a tent and there is an amphitheater with nightly ranger programs. The one drawback is that only one loop has showers in it so there can be a wait in the morning or evening. You can get around this by jumping in the lake for a quick rinse off of sweat and dust. One other plus is that I had good cell reception in the campground, in fact it was better than in the town of Apgar. (T-Mobile) One other big plus is that this campground takes reservations, an advantage when you're driving 2,500 mi and don't have to worry about hunting for a spot. In summer this campground is pretty much bug free as well.

Ground is rocky and hard. We weren't able to get tent pegs in. Recommend bringing a hammer with a heavy head and some strong stakes. Or look for a campsite with a raised tent area.

I want to go back!
Loved the hiking and the views. Loved East Glacier especially Running Eagle Falls.
Plan ahead.
