About Fish Creek Campground

Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 mi (0.7 mi) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3.5 ft (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 °F (89.6 °F), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.

The Bathrooms were closed due to plumbing problems and the Porta Potties were in dire need of dumping. I am not opposed to using portable toilets, but these were way past time to be changed. The campground was clean and quiet.

We loved our visit to Glacier! It was June and early in the season and the place was a feast for the eyes. Picture views everywhere! Though the park was already busy, I think we were short of the human throngs that come later in the summer. We camped at Fish Creek. Tent camping. We liked it. The lavatory was out during our stay in C, so we had to go up the hill to B to use the facilities. It turned out to be not so bad. Showers were in A, so the added walking gave time to feel the altitude and smell the pine. Not terrible. Our friendly ranger superintendent (Bill) suggested a side trip that provided the single most breathtaking view of the week, Bowman Lake! Wow, something else!!! The road to it was rough and technical to navigate, caked our truck with mud that is yet to come off, but it was well worth the trip. It was truly a world class view and something for a postcard.
Maybe…. The fear and threat of bears was overhyped. Possible? Maybe that’s the cachet of the place. It sure worked on us. Semi wigged out, we left disappointed at not seeing nor encountering brown or grizzly bears.

Site A16 was wonderful. Can see a glimpse of the lake through the trees and can walk down the stairs between sites A17 and A19 to the lake. Showers in Loop A, beware, might only have cold water available at the time of your shower as was the case for us.

This was a nice campsite, with the car and trailer area on a slight hill. This campsite is next to the water source, which was useful, and close to the bathroom (with had running water). The campsite is close to the other campers and there is not privacy. Glacier National Park is amazing, of course.

Beautiful setting.
Facilities were run down.
A single shower facility for 3 loops is insufficient. One shower room was closed and there was no hot water. Toilet houses were sufficient.
Campsites are extremely difficult to park a modern travel trailer. I had a very difficult time and witnessed others struggle to place their unit in sites.

Not a bad site with very quick access to the lake. Not the most level but able to get pretty close. Bathrooms in C loop weren’t functioning but we were able to make the short walk over to D loop to use toilets there.

Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
  • Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.

  • Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
