About Fish Creek Campground

Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 mi (0.7 mi) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3.5 ft (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 °F (89.6 °F), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.

The reason we picked our specific campsite was because it was in between the water and a bathroom. The bathroom of course was out of order and not working & there were port-a-potties in its place. Wish we would have known that prior to booking. Also, the campsite reservation doesn’t give you access to the west side of glacier which was a huge inconvenience because of course there were no car reservations left for the days we were booked. The entire reason people camp at the glacier campgrounds is to hike glacier…so that was frustrating that we didn’t have access outside of 6am-3pm. My friend almost missed her surprise engagement because of this. It’s silly.

Nice sites were big and clean. Did not like Night of the Grizzlies at the amphitheater. Should probably warn people first especially families with children.

The wooded setting of the campground is very nice and our site was great for our tent. My only complaints about the experience were that (1) the bathrooms in our loop were out of service and (2) the quiet hours policy was not enforced or respected at all - there was noise and loud talking until nearly 2am.

The campsite was beautiful and bathrooms/showers were easily accessible. Lots of things to do around and easy drive up to Apgar visit center to take the free shuttle on Going to the Sun Road. Personal favorite hike was avalanche lake. Great place to sit down eat your lunch and take a dip.

Our site #B89 was shady, level, and spacious enough for our 30' TT. Despite being right next to the access road, our site was quiet and felt private. We could hear Fish Creek burbling in the background. We enjoyed two of the ranger talks at the amphitheater. With daytime highs above 95 °F, we would have appreciated extended generator hours in the evening. Alas, we were stuck hurrying back to camp at 5 pm for 2 hours of A/C. We made it work.

Nice campsite with good access to a clean bathroom and potable water. The overall campground was very well-kept. The few times that we need cell reception, we were able to get it at the picnic area. Evening presentations at the amphitheater were mostly very interesting. Only negative was that the campsite (which is rated for 8 campers) had very little level ground for pitching tents. As a result, we were hesitant to use our fire pit unless the breeze was blowing away from our tents. Also, our picnic table ended up having to be on a slant.

Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
  • Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.

  • Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
