About Fish Creek Campground

Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 mi (0.7 mi) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3.5 ft (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 °F (89.6 °F), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.

Can't say enough good things about this campsite and campground! Our host, Terry was so welcoming, cheerful, and attentive. Having a ranger-led talk in the campground amphitheater was a pleasant surprise! This particular site has a creek running along it. If you sleep well with white noise, you will sleep like a baby! Clean facilities and beauty all around!

Rangers and host of Fish Creek Camp were very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. We found the park to be exceptionally clean, not just our campsite but the entire camp. We drove Logan’s Pass twice just to catch things we missed the first time. The GNP is a multigenerational park and we loved visiting with people from different places and ages. Events were planned nightly at the ampitheater and or visitor centers. Most of all the beauty of the park and wild life cannot be measured. We saw hearing grizzly cubs, moose, mountain goats, deer, pikas, marmots, and a multitude of birds. Waterfalls were everywhere and the streams and lakes words cannot describe. Iam thankful for the forethought of our leaders to preserve these wonderful lands for the future generations to see , experience and enjoy.

Camps sites are too close to each other. Neighbors set up there childrens play area literally 2 ft away from where we were sleeping. There is not much division between sites. Neighbors moved our picnic table and stole our wood when we went for a hike.

Campground and campsite were nice, great tree-cover. Big buck came wandering by the site. Enjoyed the evening program at the amphitheater, wish we could have stayed at this site longer. Only bad thing is the site was quite a distance from Apgar village and the other amenities of Lake Mcdonald.

Site A28 is beautifully situated on a wooded bluff over Fish Creek. There were several good, flat spots to pitch a tent, although there was no tent pad. This site had plenty of room to pitch several tents sufficiently far from the fire pit and picnic table.

The water spigot was across the street and back one site. There was no bear box. The bathroom, with showers, was nearby. My kids showered just before dusk and the first one had a warm shower but the temperature dropped with the sun for the other kid.

There was decent access to the lake via a trail through the picnic area. This side of the park is very accessible to visitors in a way that the eastern campgrounds aren’t and the vibe here seemed much busier and more jovial than our stay at both Many Glacier and St. Mary campgrounds on this same trip. Read into that what you will.

General

  • Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
  • Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.
  • Generator hours for Fish Creek Campground are , , and .
  • Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
