About Fish Creek Campground

Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 mi (0.7 mi) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3.5 ft (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 °F (89.6 °F), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.

We camped in a tent and had plenty of room for our tent and an additional gazebo. We also had plenty of room to hang up hammocks and abide by the guidelines/rules. The site is on the end of the loop and has a pull through driveway so you can pull in and then drive out the other side when you leave to explore. The showers and bathrooms are close and so is garbage and food locker storage. Short walk down to the Lake McDonald picnic area as well which was nice. We walked down with our camping chairs and fishing poles. Not far from Apgar Village and the Apgar Visitor Center. Allowed us to take advantage of the 10pm Astronomy Program at the Apgar Visitor Center which was very informative and you were invited to look through a number of different telescopes and view stars and nebulas. This is a great campsite on the west end of the Going to the Sun Road and a great site if you drive up to explore Polebridge. Polebridge is WELL worth the bumpy drive if you're up to it!

Fish Creek is a lovely campground! Facilities were nice and clean, the campground was quiet, and having easy access to Lake McDonald is wonderful. One thing to be cautious of - each site has a max of 8 people, and at the two sites we used, 8 would have been a big stretch. The usable tent pad area was really closer to 4, but using the driveway on one site we got up to six. And then couldn't use the fire ring on that site because of tent proximity. These were sites 138 and 140. Again, very nice sites just a little tight if you have a bigger group.

I loved this campground, it was low key but stunning and easy access to the park! Its right on the lake but set off slightly. You could see the water peaking through the trees at my campsite. These sites are a bit hit or miss on setup, mine was great for a tent but slightly slanted for car camping. Some in our loop were definitely only good for tents vs RVs or cars (unless you’re an expert with some levels). The bathrooms were very clean and overall the place was calm and great. I will definitely stay here again, but if you have hikes planned in Many Glacier maybe split time between this site and one on that side as its very far from that side!

Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
  • Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.

  • Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
