About South Ruby Campground

South Ruby Campground is situated above Ruby Lake at the base of the beautiful Ruby Mountains at 6 ft in elevation, near the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Ruby Valley, Nevada. Ruby Valley is a surprising wildlife oasis. An expansive marsh is laced with riparian corridors coursing with cool, spring-fed waters. Together with lush meadow and shrub-steppe uplands, these habitats support a diversity of wildlife seldom found in the high desert and is one of the most important waterfowl nesting areas in the region. The refuge is either home or a stopover location for over 220 species of birds. Of specific interest are canvasback ducks, trumpeter swans, greater sandhill cranes and sage grouse. Mule deer and pronghorn antelope can also be found in the area.

This campground is nicely laid out, and the new camp host really cares. It is conveniently located just a couple miles north of the main Ruby Marshes boat ramp. We easily got our 31 ft camper into our quite level spot (lower loop) and out. Definitely want to stay here again.

When we arrived at 1:00 there were people in our reserved spot. We asked the host about it, and he said they were supposed to move but that we could pick any other non-reserved spot. We did, but it was just the fact that we had picked that spot and people were in it. As it worked out, all was well with the alternative spot. But that being said, next time I reserve a spot, I sure hope I get it. Camp bathrooms were cleaned every day and having potable water available was nice. However, the bathrooms at the boat docks really need help. weeds growing all around the handicap accessible area and the toilets were almost full. It was a good time, but beware, rattle snakes were out in camp. Keep your eyes open.

Every year a group of us ranging from 5 to 14 people spend a week at the campground. This year was great, the camp host Lee was really on the ball keeping things in order and cleaner than ever. There has always been a problem with flies and spiders in the rest rooms but not this time they were very clean and no bugs to be found. He was very helpful and also insured everyone was in the right spot. The only bad thing about the stay was the trash disposal folks did not empty the dumpster and it was over packed. Myself and the group of people will be back next year.

Campground host was the best. Bathrooms have never been cleaner. Only criticism is the trash can was overflowing and should be emptied more frequently.

The camp host Lee was awesome and very helpful. The campground is set amongst the P&J trees and is beautiful.
But…no waist water dump and you cannot connect hose to water faucet around camp sites, must use buckets or the host will unlock water at defunct waist water dump station across the road.
