This is one of our favorite nearby campgrounds. Some sites are especially wonderful, with great shade/privacy from trees, and the creek nearby. There are plenty of sites big enough for large RVs. Bathrooms are kept clean. And the nearby hiking is not too long or difficult with views that are well worth the effort.

We enjoyed the physical setting. The restrooms were always clean. It was quiet. We liked being able to go on hikes right from the campground.

Amazing place to stay. Campgrounds are clean and very cheap. Cost is 1/3 the price of California state parks. Temperature is usually mild, especially compared to the desert a few miles away. Lot's to do, especially if you like to hike. Thomas Canyon trail is accessible from the campground. Just up the road at the turnaround are two trailheads. Island Lake is a nice, easy hike with great views of the canyon. Ends at Island Lake. The other trail heads towards Lake Lamoille, Liberty Pass, Liberty Lake and beyond..... Our last visit in 2018 came after a year of heavy snow. In past visits we were able to hike over the snow to get to Lamioille. Unfortunately the lower parts of the trail were "bogged in" (muddy) and impossible to traverse. We weren't able to get to Liberty Pass, which was the minimum we wanted to hike. Hopefully we'll get there next time. Might have to make the trip earlier in the Summer. The best campsites with creek access are first come, first serve (not available for reservation). You can toss your drinks into the snow melt creek water to keep them cold. We live 700 plus miles away, but it's worth the trip. Only knew about it due to my folk's growing up in nearby Elko. If you're riding I-80 between Salt Lake and Reno and looking for a diversion, this is your place. If not, strongly consider it if you're seeking a comfortable, peaceful place to camp. You won't be disappointed.

Take I-80 to any Elko exit and head south to Idaho Street. Turn south on 12th Street (from the east) or on 5th Street (from the west), to State Route 227. Travel 25 miles on SR 227 to Forest Road 660 (Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway). Travel 8 miles on FR 660 to the campground.
The campground is accessible via I-80, with the nearest exits in Elko, followed by a southbound route on State Route 227 for approximately 25 miles. The final approach is via Forest Road 660, which connects to Lamoille Canyon.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
