Terrific place!! Beautiful setting! The sunsets were amazing. The campsites were nicely spaced and equipped with shaded picnic tables, bbq and fire pit ( to use when allowed). The higher, less protected campsites can get pretty windy. We were fine in our camper, but would definitely want a lower elevation site for a tent.
Definitely walk the impressive nature trail and visit the bookstore.

Terrific place!! Beautiful setting! The sunsets were amazing. The campsites were nicely spaced and equipped with shaded picnic tables, bbq and fire pit ( to use when allowed). The higher, less protected campsites can get pretty windy. We were fine in our camper, but would definitely want a lower elevation site for a tent.

What a pleasant surprise. We spent 1 night here in site 17 (a pulll through, no hookup and listed as an unlevel site). Given the quite adequate size of the site we managed to get our van level in the site with our ramps. Views from our campsite were some of the most incredible we experienced on our southwestern trip. Large paved sites, wide spacing in between. There is a bathhouse which has showers and an accessible boardwalk trail about 1 mile long through the lava beds. Small visitors center on site with limited hours.

We like this park and visit at least once per year. My one complaint is that no show reservations are not park cancelled after the first day so sites can go unused. The park is getting more popular and it would also be nice to be able to cancel same day before noon. This would be really useful for the first come first served folks. Each day there were at least a few that had to leave due to no space and could have been used if someone had cancelled even if just a day.

We enjoyed our time at Valley of Fires. Beautiful scenery in every direction. We were at Site #3 which is electric. Only drawback was our trashcan was full of trash and wasn't emptied the entire time we were there. Shower facilities were nice with hot water. Overall nice experience and great 3 day getaway for us.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
