Paliza

Clean, newly paved roads, campers respectful of rules and regulations.

We stayed 4 nights, is was pretty hot, but the camping host was great . Very respectful when letting us know about rules, changes. We also got clarification for us regarding some camp changes but always polite. We also noticed he was always cleaning the area. We will definitely revisit.

We were pleasantly surprised by this campground with its immaculate condition, large campsites, asphalt driveways and roads, clean bathrooms and trash that was collected regularly. The camp host was friendly and helpful. It was definitely one of the nicest USFS campgrounds we have been to.

The camp was extremely clean and well kept, the camp host was diligent and you could tell he took pride in his campground!

I found the software to make the reservation cumbersome and changes to your reservation ridiculous. We got to the campground and it was completely empty and yet we couldn't change our site even though the Host was okay with the change. Please update your policy and your software to allow for these changes.

This campground is clean, paved roads and level tent areas. So nice. Vault toilets are very clean and camp host is a nice guy.

This is one of my favorite campgrounds, a fantastic setting ang excellent level and large sites. The one thing I would do is pave the road. I lost one of my hubcaps from my motorhome due to the rough road.

We stayed at Paliza (Site 030), our first time camping with the USFS/Recreation.gov. Coming from event-based camping like the Texas Ren Faire and EAA AirVenture, this was fantastic. Site 030 easily fit our large Wawona 6 tent. There's a gravel pad plus plenty of room near the trees for a second tent.
The campground was very peaceful. We stayed in the "quiet loop," where generator use is restricted. We could hear some generator noise from the adjacent loop, but neighbors were respectful and shut them off well before quiet hours. It was about half-full when we arrived and cleared out the next day. I can imagine it getting noisier in peak season, but we found it lovely.
We brought our dog, Summer, and she loved it. The area is very pet-friendly and booties worked great for her paws. Other owners were respectful and responsible too.
There's no potable water or electricity, so come prepared. We brought water containers with spouts, which made dishes easy. For power, we used an EcoFlow battery with solar panels. Just know that the mountains and trees limit direct sunlight, so you won't get a full charge. Plan your energy use accordingly. Be aware of yellow jackets too. They were only a problem when we were cooking, eating, or had food and trash out. Leave their nests alone and they leave you alone.
There's no cell service at all. We brought Starlink and it worked well enough. Phone calls were fine, just occasionally flaky.
The hiking trailhead is inside the loop and walkable from any campsite. We meant to hike but ended up driving to some local falls. We highly recommend the onX Offroad app for driving paths. We found a great shortcut up the mountain, but take note: it's a standard dirt road with steep drop-offs and tight switchbacks. It's manageable in a vehicle like our Ford Expedition, but it's not for every driver or vehicle.
Overall, no complaints and we'd absolutely return. It's a wonderful spot for a peaceful getaway.

Love the camp host. He educates us about the history of the camp every time we come, and the camp itself is always clean.
