This campsite was fairly private, spacious and amazing views. We wished we had planned to stay longer. Clean bathroom and well kept campground. We can’t wait to come back.

This was a beautiful campground, and the restroom facilities were very clean. It was nice to have flush toilets in a campground like this. The only negative was that when we booked the site, we entered our trailer length and the site we booked said that our trailer would fit. When we got there it wouldn’t. Most of the sites are very short and hard to back into. We knew this, but the search revealed our trailer would fit. We tried to switch to another site but there was no internet service, and the camp hosts had a sign out that said they were unavailable. We lost our money on the first site, drove into town 20 minutes to get service, and reserved another site that we could fit into. We lost a lot of time having to do this and tried to see the camp host the next day, and they were still unavailable. They were unavailable for our entire stay of 3 days. If we are to depend on the internet, there should at least be Wi-Fi in a centralized location such as the gate in order to reserve a site.

We stayed 2 nights on the Black Bear Loop at Juniper. The sites are very attractive, nestled amongst the Ponderosa pines. The bathrooms are clean and the co-located dishwashing closet is a real plus for us tent campers. It would be wonderful see the the nearby amphitheater area spruced up and in use, with a ranger talk in the evening.

Lovely campground, but the lights on the outside of the bathroom building were too bright, which really marred the "dark skies" experience for us. I don't think you need any lights outside the bathroom, and a dimmer light inside would be sufficient.

General
- Reservation dates. Most individual campsites are reservable up to 6 months in advance (some are first-come, first-served only). Group campsites are available by reservation only-- up to 12 months in advance until the day before arrival. Group campsites are NOT available first-come, first served.
- Group Campsites. The group campsites are for tent camping only and for groups of 10 to 20 persons per site. You may camp only in the campsite you reserve.
- Entrance Fees. Bandelier National Monument charges an entrance fee separate from camping fees. You may pay the fee upon arrival at the Automated Fee Machine at the Bandelier Entrance Station, at the Bandelier Visitor Center during business hours or purchase in advance. The park also honors Federal interagency passes (e.g., annual, senior, access, 4th grade, Golden Age pass etc.). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page.
- The Bandelier NM shuttle has begun for the 2026 season. The shuttle, operated by Atomic City Transit, runs from the Frey Trailhead (across from Black Bear Loop) to the visitor Center in Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle expands parking capacity and offers campers a great opportunity to easily hike the Frey Trail and experience the breathtaking views on a 1.5-mile trail that follows the historic (pre-1930s) route into Frijoles Canyon, then shuttle back to the campground later in the day. Once in Frijoles Canyon, more than 70 miles of additional trails are easily accessible. The shuttle runs on select dates March-October from 10:30am to 4:45pm. Complete schedule can be found here.
- Camping Equipment. Individual campsites allow only one (1) RV per site. Pop-up trailers count as a recreational vehicle. Group campsites are for tent camping only.
- Parking. The use of all vehicles (including bicycles and trailers) is restricted to the parking area. All vehicles belonging to campers must be parked in the designated parking spots for the occupied campsite. Overflow vehicles must be parked in Juniper Family Campground overflow lots.
- Food Lockers. Bears are known to be active in Bandelier National Monument. Please keep food, garbage and scented items locked up and unavailable to wildlife. Bear lockers are provided in the campground for storage of these items.
- Pets. Pets are permitted in the campground, picnic area, and parking lots only and must be leashed at all times. Pets are not allowed on any hiking trails within the park.
- Water: Potable water is available year-round at spigots located throughout each Loop of the campground. There are no hookups at any campsites. A seasonal RV dump station is located inside the entrance to the campground (open mid-April thru October). No showers or laundry. The campground and park do not offer showers or laundry facilities.
- Prohibited activities. Group sports (volleyball, horseshoes, etc) are prohibited. Possession and/or use of fireworks or metal detectors is prohibited. Use of firearms is strictly prohibited and they may not be carried inside of government buildings. Digging or any other soil disturbance at campsites prohibited.
- Firewood and Campfires. Gathering firewood is prohibited. During hot and dry summer months, fire restrictions are common and campfires and charcoal fires may be prohibited. Check the Alerts & Conditions page on the park website or call the Visitor Center for information on current fire restrictions.
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Firewood available at self-serve kiosk at campground entrance. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
