Juniper Campground (NM)

Was a great base camp

Really great park and campground. Facilities are clean, nice, and up to date. Real toilets and sinks with water and soap feels like a treat in a national park!. Campsites are spaced nicely and we had plenty of room. The driveways are a tad short and our site was not that level, but it did not impact our trip. The trails are well maintained and aside from the points of interest, there are plenty of things to see and do. We will definitely be back!

The Juniper Campground at Bandelier National Monument was great! The campground area was clean, the restrooms were well-kept, and the proximity to Frijoles Canyon can't be beat. I like that each spot had a large bear box for food storage, a large picnic table, and nice fire pit. The hill right behind our campsite provided a fantastic view of the sunrise over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Wow! That was spectacular to witness. While staying in Bandelier you must make the hike to the Alcove House. It's only a mile or so from the visitor center and gives you the opportunity to climb 140 ft of ladders to view the valley below from an ancient dwelling. Even if you are not up to climbing the ladders, the hike itself along the riparian gym of Frijoles Creek is well worth the time.

It is a nice normal clean campground in a forested area. But why are the toilets so high!?

Such a beautiful and peaceful campsite! The park is so magnificent and we enjoyed our hiking there!

Very nice campground. Foe once Rec.gov has done this correctly by (1) having some sites available by reservation months in advance, (2) some site available to reserve 2 weeks in advance and (3) some sites available on a first come first served basis with the ability to pay at the site. I appreciate the flexibility and hope that rec.gov will transition other sites to this user-friendly process.
