About Cochiti Campground

Cochiti Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

We loved this location. We stayed in the Juniper loop for 11 night after staying in the Elk(?) loop for two nights. Great showers! The whole park was clean and very well kept.

We were there early before picnic tables were out and all repairs hadn’t been made. We were there with friends to visit the surrounding areas. It gets windy so be prepared don’t leave things out that can blow away. The lake is really low. We really enjoyed our visit.

We stayed at Juniper Loop site 16 for 3 nights and really enjoyed our time there, it was quiet the whole time we were there and had no issues to speak of. We noticed crews were working on improvements throughout the campground including new water and electrical connections and dump stations. There are no sewer connections at sites, however there are dump stations available at different areas throughout the campgrounds including the area where we were staying which we did use on our way out. On Juniper loop some reviews mentioned having to bring 100’ of water hose to share spigots between sites, that is no longer the case as each site now has its own water and electrical connections.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
