About Cochiti Campground

Cochiti Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

Disappointed. Have stayed here many time but this visit the bathrooms/ showers at Buffalo were very dirty, no toilet paper, paper towels or soap. One bathroom at boat dock closed other one dirty.
When leaving found the dump station very full and unable to dump. Tried the upper station and it was locked.
For it being a long holiday weekend expected things to be in better condition.

This is such a nice campground! The tent pads are made with pea gravel, which has to be the very best substance to set up a tent on! We slept great on this!

The only trouble we had were people partying with loud music and women cackling after quiet hours. There didn’t appear to be any campground hosts anywhere, nor any rangers driving through. We were invited to join one of the groups playing loud music, but we really just wanted to get to bed since we needed to be up early for a long driving day. Thankfully, all of the different groups settled down a bit so we were able to get to sleep by midnight.

The new RV camping section with electricity / water is beautifully done. Campsites are set well apart from each other to give proper space between sites. Good asphalt roads and asphalt RV pads. Beautiful roofs covering tables. Odd mini streetlights at each site that do not work. Sites perched on gentle hill with very good overview of the lake. I wish all lake campsites in the state looked this beautiful. The old west side camp spots are just that, old style and bit of an eye sore and not well layed out. The east side of the lake - Tetilla Peak, the road is horrible!! Full of big potholes. Not RV friendly and recommend only driving in a truck with good suspension. Campsites were closed. Park Ranger said they had plans to open soon. From what I could see looked similar to westside old campsites.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
