While it is a very pretty campground, it is not well run. We had a reservation for one night and the site was not as pictured and I had to do a lot of leveling to make it right. Okay, that's the way it is. I was hoping to get one of the first come first serve (FF) sites for the next night but all of them had signs on them where people were able to reserve them for many nights. There were tags on all of them. How is this FF. Some of them never showed up. The camp host was MIA. How do I know this? When I arrived, there was a note on the ground with a rock on top for him about an emergency. I knocked..no answer. Checked again later. Nothing. Next day, note still there and nothing. Toilets were very smelly. Do not count on the FF. I

This is a beautifully constructed campground, with well-separated sites. Jim Young, the campground host, was very friendly and helpful. The water isn't working right now, hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Black Canyon is a beautiful campground. If you have a fifth wheel the campsites are backwards to your door. This at first seemed like a problem but after settled in it was fine. The camp host was outstanding and the facilites were very clean.
Take the time to hike the trails on the campsite. Very quiet and not to hard. If you like breweries you must go Rowley Farmhouse Ales. Beers were great but the food was amazing.

Campground host was MIA on our first night which stunk because someone was in our reserved site and didn’t mive till next day. Thankfully there was an open site nearby that we could squat in but sure would have been nice for the host to have done their job. Otherwise the campground was nice.

Loved the location. Cool nights and lots of shade during the day. Very clean grounds and friendly camp host. Plenty of hiking trails and close to Santa Fe. The only thing missing was water access but available at nearby campground.
