Lake Powhatan offers a fantastic location near Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, with well-maintained, private campsites and friendly staff. We had a wonderful camping trip. All the sites are large and clean. The showers were very clean. My only suggestion would be to have better marked trails. But overall everything was excellent. We can’t wait to return!

I went swimming in the lake and it was 2-3 ft deep in mud. I have been sick with a waterborne illness since that day. It has been 6 days now. There is not enough of a swimming area for fun. Not enough bathrooms and lines to get in. Too strict on leaving ANY items out at campsite. Non food items included. The camp guy came by while we were gone for an hour and out all our things in the bear trap. We were upset and thought out stuff was taken. Fortunately, I thought to look in the bear trap and our things were there. Still felt violated. All our food was in our vehicle. All reverence and respect for the bears. It is over ran by loud children, which leaves me no interest in being in the lake. In this small areas. There is a he of bacteria in this lake and unfortunately, there is something wrong. I have had waterborne illness in the past and this has been horrible.

I so love this PLACE! As much as I like being "disconnected", I would like the option to have been cellular/Internet service.

We have come to Lake Powhatan to camp several times in the past few years even though it is nearly a 5-hr drive for us pulling the camper. I love the proximity to the Arboretum and thevBlue Ridge Pky. Also enjoyed the Ashville Bitsnical gardens on a previous trip - a real gem. Another big plus is full hook-ups in the Lakeside loop which makes it much easier for a longer stay.

Sites are nice & well kept. Staff is very nice & helpful. Only drawback to campground is insufficient number of restrooms/ showers for the weekend crowds they get.

Terrific location and friendly, outgoing staff. Perhaps the quietest quiet I’ve ever heard. Only issue was internet access, which was nonexistent at my site, but hardly the camp’s fault. Overall an incredible experience!
