Well kept campground. Showers and bathrooms are kept clean. Plenty of activities nearby. Site 004 on Big John Loop is a bit snug,, but level and secluded from the other sites.

Lake Powhatan offers a fantastic location near Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, with well-maintained, private campsites and friendly staff. Campers appreciate the beautiful, serene environment and the variety of outdoor activities available, including hiking and biking trails. While some noted issues with the swimming area and occasional noise disturbances, overall, guests had a positive experience and expressed a desire to return.

We took our grandchildren camping and loved that they could swim in the lake, bike and hike around the campground!

Beautiful wooded sites with lots of privacy. It rained quite a bit while we were there so we didn't get to do much hiking in the park. However, the campground is very close to things to do outside the park and an easy access that all Asheville has to offer.

The campground was nice, clean and quiet. Plenty of privacy with most RV spots. Love the full hookup. The fishing pier was great but not meant for the short fisherman. There are plenty of spots around the lake to fish that are a little more private. Its a great park to ride bikes but the beach is why I'm giving a 3 stars. It's like they let that part of the park go. Not a nice swimming spot and you have to walk quite a bit from the parking area, with all your stuff, just to be disappointed. If you don't like mucky slimmy mud, you won't like swimming here. If the beach was swimmable, the price of a full hookup would be worth it but without it, too pricey.

I would have given it 5 stars but the lack of enforcement of the “quiet time” required me to knock it down to two. We stayed there from July 30 - Aug 2. The campsites were well-maintained and the areas we visited were clean and we taken care of. The staff at the front gate was friendly and very helpful, no issues there. The problem was Saturday, August 1. There was a group that was of the campground from us, near the “glamping“ area who had loud music, yelling, and hollering, and burning plastic well passed 2 AM. The Park rules clearly state that there is an enforceable quiet time, unfortunately there didn’t seem to be anyone there to enforce it, or if there was, they didn’t do anything about it. Quite disappointing as my family and I really enjoyed the campsite, hoping it’s just a one off and we will give it another try n the near future.

Beautiful scenery; you feel like you are deep in the woods, but you are just minutes from Asheville. The staff was helpful and friendly! We were hoping the lake would be bigger and more recreational, but it did not affect our time spent.
