It's nice that the playground and swing set is right there next to the shelter. There's also an outhouse style restroom at the end of the parking lot. The grill is not under the roof of the shelter in case you needed to know. There is plenty of parking. It is also nice that the shelter is at the end of a looped parking lot, so there isn't any through traffic.

From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 mi) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone. Continue to Exit 286B (approximately 20 mi), turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 7.5 mi. Turn the first right after the bridge. (You will see a sign for Warrior Creek Campground.) Continue on this access road and the shelter will be straight past the gatehouse.
From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 55 mi) to Exit 286B, turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 7.5 mi. Turn the first right after the bridge. (You will see a sign for Warrior Creek Campground.) Continue on this access road and the shelter will be straight past the gatehouse.
From Wilkesboro, North Carolina, head west on Main Street/Hwy 268/Hwy 18 (approximately 8.5 mi) and turn right on the Warrior Creek Campground access road (directly across from Edmiston Road). Continue on this access road and the shelter will be straight past the gatehouse.

Keowee Park Shelter is accessible via I-77 North and Highway 421 North, with the nearest exit being 286B for Highway 268. It is approximately 60 miles from Charlotte and 55 miles from Winston-Salem.
Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Reservations will be indicated by a ranger before you arrive.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fees & deposits
- A shelter fee is needed for advance reservations, but vehicles do not incur an extra fee for using the shelter.
Safety & rules
- Bringing alcoholic beverages is not allowed.
Fires & fuel
- To protect the forests, do not move firewood; buy it locally and burn it on-site.
