It’s a popular place but the facilities are clean, there are good day hiking options(though popular) and it’s a beautiful spot. All in all a great place for car camping in the high country.

This campground is great whether you are a family, a couple, or a group looking for a hiking base camp. The bathrooms are well maintained and clean. Open areas available for playing, frizbee, etc. Sites are flat and roomy, and generally they are not too close together. The location is gorgeous. We had a great experience camping here, and we plan to visit again.

Great setting at the base of Mount Mitchell. Quiet, despite the fairly close proximity to other sites/campers. An enjoyable experience and definitely recommend as a nice getaway.

Reasonably quiet, well run campground with a variety of sites available. We weren't able to get a motor home site by reservation on short notice, but did tent camp anyway. Beautiful setting, ideal spot for hikers, both easy and difficult trails readily available. Due to COVID usual activities were not going on. Bathhouses were adequate but several of the toilet rooms were out of service. Camp hosts were helpful and readily available.

The hike up to Mount Mitchell is long and hard! It took us an entire day but it was so enjoyable. It was the reason we came to the camp, and definitely worth it.
