Great restroom and shower facility.
My negative is that the campsite was not private, as expected. I had a parallel parking campsite (versus a pull in driveway). This made the site just feel completely exposed as people constantly walked or drove immediately past my campsite. (My car was along the main thoroughfare) Next time, I will call and make sure I am booking a drive in campsite (the map does not show driveways, not do the descriptions explain which is which).

We camped at Black Mountain for 3 nights...beautiful campsites....the weather could have been better....rained daily.
Loved the campground and the friendly hosts, clean bathrooms and help when needed.
No cell service or WiFi on the premises, so plan to out of contact.
Enjoy!

Great campground located at the foot of Mt Mitchell. The beautiful South Toe River runs right through the campground and there are excellent hiking trails to enjoy. Campground staff were very friendly and helpful.

It had been about 9 years since I had camped here back in college, and I decided to return with my husband and our small child. We arrived and loved the campground—it was just as beautiful as I remembered. It’s well kept and lovely. We stayed at site 9. I’d seen mixed reviews about the site as it’s close to the restrooms, but I thought it was a nice size and there are some trees between the site and the shower house, so it’s not intrusive. The office folks were friendly on the phone, and after we set up they helped my 4 year old and I get some firewood.
The weekend didn’t go exactly as expected. The area received a lot more rain than I think anyone was expecting, and the river rose pretty quickly during the day. Thankfully one of the campground hosts/staff came by to let us know that the conditions were abnormal, and offered us to move to site on higher ground in case the river continued to rise. With a small child and a dog, breaking down and setting back up in the rain with a rising river nearby seemed stressful, so we made the decision to pack up and go. However, we will absolutely be back and felt incredibly welcome during our short time at Black Mountain Campground. You can tell the folks running this place take pride in their little piece mountain, and they are warm, gracious hosts. Barring the inclement weather, I know it would have been a delightful trip.

This is my second stay at Black Mtn. The camp hosts are very nice people. I noticed that apparently funds for upkeep of the facilities have been reduced or have disappeared, but things were tolerable.
