About Mount Pisgah Campground

One of the most popular of the Parkway's campgrounds, Mount Pisgah Campground is perched in the rolling mountains of western North Carolina on the southernmost end of the famous Blue Ridge Parkway. Surrounded by dense hardwood forests at an elevation of 4980 feet, it offers shady, cool respite from the summer heat. Whichever end of the day appeals, spectacular sunrise and sunset panoramic views can be enjoyed from nearby overlooks. Several popular hiking trails, ranging from moderate to strenuous, are accessible from the campground. Drenched in history, this area was once part of the holdings of George Vanderbilt and the site of his hunting camp house, Buck Springs (no longer standing), is close by.

The rangers are very helpful, friendly and attentive. This is not a party campground. This is a beautiful, well maintained camp ground where campers are respectful and love nature. Facilities are nice and clean and the location is about 45 min from nearest town but there is a small camp store with essentials. But the location is perfect for enjoying pisgah national forest. It gets cold at night and it can be very windy so bring layers.

Loved camping here. Very cheap for a 3 day stay. I recommend staying longer than 3 days as that's not enough time to explore the trails and geology.

The campground is well-maintained, easy to find, and close to fun and popular hikes. The tent pad is flat and large. Restrooms are clean and in good working order and I appreciated the free shower, though there is only one shower stall in the bathroom which might become a challenge at busier times of the year. The biggest downside is that you can hear the traffic along the parkway, which sometimes continues late into the night.

For this site specifically, it’s perfectly situated to be close to the water spigot and bathrooms without being so close as to be annoying. The site is mostly shaded with some dappled sun, and has plenty of potential for hanging hammocks or tarps. However, if you book this site be aware that there are direct lines of site to the two neighboring campsites C10 and C13. It’s so close to C10 that you share a parking spot. This was a nonissue our first night when our C10 neighbors were quiet, but our subsequent neighbors had rambunctious children and there was little to no buffer between us and them. It seemed like the sites on the inside of the loop are less secluded than those on the outside, but despite that I found C11 and other sites on the first half of the inner loop to be more secluded than those later in the loop.

I took a night stroll down to the amphitheater at the bottom of loop B to watch the blue ghost fireflies, very cool.

Dinner at the Pisgah Inn was exceptional, highly recommend a reservation, the food was so good, it distracted me from the view.

It was rainy but being right across the parkway from the Inn worked out great!
