What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground is praised for its beautiful, wooded setting, peaceful atmosphere, and proximity to hiking trails and nearby attractions. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and the enjoyable ranger programs. However, some concerns include maintenance issues, such as overgrown grass and the need for more thorough restroom cleaning, along with the absence of showers and limited privacy between sites.

Honestly one of the best experiences I have had camping in the smokies! The campsites were clean and orderly without being overly close to each other, and the public restrooms had one outlet, a light, and water which were all very helpful. It was near a river which was very peaceful and overall I greatly enjoyed my time there and felt very safe. 10/10!

Had a fantastic site. Got a little chilly, but the Great Smokies is a great place to visit.

Stayed in #4 in A loop, right across from the creek. Nice to fall asleep to but you have to almost yell at people with you, lol. Sites are very close together, I expect the busy season to be very loud. Clean sites and bathrooms. Beautiful location. No cell service. If you need it, go back to the welcome center.
Would stay again but only in the off season.

Campsites close together and not very private. Campsite location is great - we were able to spend time at the river in campground and just a couple miles from visitor center to see elk/farm museum. Would go again.

The campground was clean and well maintained even for the off season. The Smokemont Loop trail is great but if you have a service dog be aware there is a log bridge crossing at about the half way point. It's approximately 40' across the creek and about 10' above the creek. We just doubled back and hiked the other side of the loop. That increased the mileage but we were basically the only ones on the trail.

You sent me numerous emails saying do not attempt to go to your campsite! Until we tell you it is safe. And never got a message it was safe! I paid for 4 nights and was told the park and campgrounds were closed! Lost all my money!!!

it was absolutely gorgeous. be careful with winter camping the main road was closed. be ready for the cold if you're tent camping. the weather is always colder in the park.

The campground itself has zero reception in every single spot. We went during the winter and the water fountain was not working but the sinks in the bathroom were. Seeing how close the camp plots were I'm glad we went in the winter because it would be a disaster on a busy and hot summer trip. The park itself was closed off mostly because me and my friends went the week the terrible weather across the country kicked off in January of 2024, however I wish there was direction of something we could do or places we could actually hike. I appreciate that they let us walk a good 3 mi down the closed off highway headed to Gatlinburg but its odd it was closed off so soon for ice and snow yet none had even come about yet. The trip itself was a bust, but mother nature speaks for itself. Just in general if you're reading this DO NOT come to smokemont in the winter. Cades Cove ended up being closed early in winter, but if you ever eant to risk a winter trip having difficulties, you must go to Cades Cove as there is much surrounding it if the in park experience is hindered. I drove from Wisconsin with 7 other friends too so we wasted over $1200 on gas and food we couldn't even cook because the time spent preparing and leaving early making sure we didn't get stuck in town or get stranded for weeks away from home. Think extremely carefully when planning in the winter for a trip to smokemont. It might be better for you to wait until summer.
