I always enjoy my Standing Indian Campground visits, but unfortunately I was unable to attend the NCBA group campground function due to an illness. Hopefully next year I will be able to be there.

We stayed at site 66 on loop 5. This loop is best for privacy but the worst for solar. Heavy Laurel thicket all around, and dark most of the time. But we liked the site and this is a very nice campground with showers and potable water faucets are plenty. There are 5 or 6 CG hosts so it's well taken care of. Here's the problem I have with this campground and it's a pretty big one. Firewood. When we arrived, I went to purchase a weeks worth of firewood. You are not allowed to pick or carry your own wood. They insist on delivering it to your site. Sounds great but it's not. The host brought the load to the site and dumped it near the fire pit. Most of it looked good with the exception of half a dozen or so big, notty, twisted pieces that I knew wouldn't split or burn. I asked to return them and I was told that I could burn them. Long story short, none of the wood would burn. The next day I asked the host that delivered it and he did say it was very wet from a lot of rain. When I complained at the CG store, I was told that I needed to buy their bags of kindling to burn their wood! Ridicules! I asked the host why would I buy kindling when I can make kindling from the wood that I bought. She said."you can't make kindling from wet wood"! Unbelievable! They ended up giving me a bag of pine kindling for free. Their wet wood still wouldn't burn. I ended up having to drive out of the CG to find good dry wood to make campfires with. DO NOT BUY THE CG FIREWOOD!!!

I have stayed at Standing Indian Campground many times. It is a very nice facility in a beautiful area. The staff is very cordial and helpful and like myself, most at Amateur Radio operators. I look forward to coming back soon.

Campsite was great. Level and good shade. Bathrooms were in good conditions. Suggest not relying on the fire wood from the little store in camp. The wood was very green. Kids really enjoyed playing in the river/creek that runs through the campground.
