Very clean and friendly campground. The showers and bathrooms were clean and had enough hot water. There are lots of hiking trials and things to see. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I've been going to Standing Indian Campground for years. I grew up nearby and it has always been special to me. To be honest, I think it's one of the few hidden gems left in our area. The grounds and facilities are well-maintained, it's clean, the people are friendly, and you can't beat the location. Conveniently located just outside of Franklin, this makes it perfect for those who may be new to camping, want the camping/outdoors experience, but aren't quite up for venturing off too far just yet. It really has everything. Spend enough time there and you'll soon realize, people are like family up there. It's a hotspot for locals, and I believe that's one of the things that makes it so wonderful. The people in the area have really done a good job at making sure it lasts for generations to come. About the only thing not "up to date" is cell-service, but to me, that's an added bonus because I don't have to worry about my phone. Do yourself a favor a checkout Standing Indian. Spend sometime hiking around the trails, swim in the creek, get to know the camp hosts (and the other locals who spend summers there), and who knows, if you're lucky, you might even see some wildlife!

We really enjoyed Standing Indian Campground. The staff were courteous, friendly, and very helpful.
However, the Recreation.gov system 1. is not easy to use, 2. does not include all the necessary information (e.g. we did not know Loop #5 would not open until May 15 until we arrived), and 3. is very impersonal -- camping is a very personal experience and it should begin that way too.

From Franklin, North Carolina, take U.S. Highway 64 west approximately 12 miles, passing through Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, turn left on West Old Murphy Road (State Route 1448) and watch for a directional sign for the campground. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campground sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into the campground.
The campground is accessible via U.S. Highway 64, which is approximately 12 miles from Franklin, North Carolina, and connects to State Route 1448 (West Old Murphy Road) leading to the campground.
