Wonderful campground tucked into a huge dune system above the Atlantic Ocean.Spots range from a hilltop with a fantastic view to ones that are tucked into the pines. The best part are the employees who keep the place in great condition. The ocean is just across the "inside road."

sites are great, but would like the same type of shower system that Oregon Inlet has....pull ring with warm water....not hot just warm. great stay....

This campground was perfect for our wants. You can get shaded sites and beach access via 4x4 vehicle is at the entrance of the campground. The showers aren't heated but it grows on you after a little while, or at least makes you realize how quickly you can shower. The ferry for Ocracoke is a nice hour long scenic view close to the campground. You can't beat $28 a night.

Very peaceful stay. I would recommend if you are coming in a big rig to call and talk to a park host about which site works best. I chose mine picking online looking at google maps...didn't work so well as the space was quite unlevel, tight on the sides and short - room just for 40 ft RV and not vehicle. Other spots would have been much better. Other than that clean restrooms and great camp hosts.

Frisco campground is great. Within walking distance of the Atlantic. Has some elevation to weather high water. Convenient to the beach access ramps. Great staff. Nice bathrooms, showers. Somewhat secluded. The only drawback is having to use the wretched and parasitic Recreation.gov to get a reservation. Reservations are required.

Frisco campground is the best lodging on Hatteras! Our site, P11, was shady and cool, near the boardwalk for the quick walk to ramp 49, and close to the bathhouse. We had a fabulous week.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited. |
