Frisco campground is a wonderful place to enjoy camping near the shore. Our family does an annual Father’s Day long weekend here. Which we just completed. The weather here this time of year is perfect for basic non hookup camping. Days are usually cool enough that none of the children complain about the heat. The nights are comfortable and filled with starry skies. The ocean temperatures are a little chilly but easy to get used to. The local area around the campgrounds have plenty of places to eat and shop as well.

This campground is in a great location and the restrooms and showers were clean and in great shape. But the staff does need to do a little more upkeep on the individual sites by cutting back vegetation. Most the sites are not good for RVs since they are short with inclines, but there are not good for tents either since there are no clearings. We had two small tents and a car and had to change sites since the first (P030) was on a ridge with absolutely no place to put a single tent. We changed to A002, which is one of the more roomy sites, but still ended up having to shove one of our tents somewhat in a bush so we could have a place to sit in front of it. Two people in our party ended up with ticks. Bushes and grasses need to be cut back a bit - it's a campground not some faux wilderness.

Pretty good experience. I flew in to the local airport and walked to the campground. The walk (with absolute minimal camping equipment) was manageable, but probably the maximum anyone would want to walk without a wagon or bicycle to assist. There is a general store not far away (again, walkable without any equipment), which carries "one of everything" you could possibly need.

Loved our site, P008. It was close to the beach access #49 and had some shade which was nice. It was easier to drive to the bath house than to walk. We used the loop A bath houses. The showers locked from the inside and had extra shelves. We used bathhouse C but oddly the doors locked from the outside, not sure what's up with that?! And there weren't any shelves. Beautiful campground! Hilly with great views of the ocean. And the beach there at Frisco is by far the prettiest I have ever seen on the east coast. GORGEOUS water! Clear and blue!

The park is nice, however there was not enough rangers present and people were not made / or told to put dogs on a leash.

The presence of many ticks, made for a stressful time at our campsite. There were no other campsites available. Since we had a group of friends camping in the same area, we decided to stay on our site. I got several tick bites.
There was no place, during my campsite ordering process, to use my America the Beautiful lifetime pass, to receive 50% off of the price of our campsite charge. We realized the discount, upon reading it on an entrance sign to the campground.
Afterwards, I contacted recreation.gov, who sent my request for a 50% refund to the Frisco campground. I attempted calling the campground several times, with no-one answering. Very frustrating! I hope the Frisco Campground will email me, so we can finally receive our America the Beautiful lifetime pass discount refund.

Incredible amount of ticks, cactus, and sand spurs. Watch your dogs closely not only will they get ticks but they will get cacti stuck in them. You will need netting or 30% deet to sit outside. Could not imagine being in a tent.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
