I enjoyed the privacy of my campsite and the location of the campground. A warm shower would have nice and I would gladly pay a bit more for electricity. The night sky there was breathtaking!

Facilities were as advertised. (Clean and well kept. No utilities provided.) The weather did not cooperate but not the campground fault. Campsites in the lower sections closer toward the beach would have been better protected from the wind and shorter access to the beach.

We went in August and I don't think I'd do that again - it was SO HOT and humid. The walk from the campsite down the boardwalk to the beach was substantial and made for a long end of day trek. The site was well positioned and the picnic table area offered some shade which was a godsend. I love this campground and have come every year for many years, but moving forward I'll stick to early spring/late fall.

This is a great campground and in November it is real quiet, just as we like it. Nice private site, the rangers where very helpful and the beach was an easy walk. We'll be back!

Nice place. Everything you need. There are major differences from site to site size shade etc. Some have cactus type things that are no fun at all.

Frisco is our favorite camp ground in the National Park system. Lots of space. Even when full, it does not feel full. Lots of natural cover. Easy access to the beach, where we spend time simply roaming around. We especially like early spring and late fall. Recreation.gov is easy to use to book our trips.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited. |
