As much as I have enjoyed this destination in the past, I must say that this last trip was a pretty miserable experience. Occasionally rain and very high winds constantly made fishing very unpleasant and not very productive.
They even suspended ferry operations for a couple of days which required some of my guest to depart early, and limited the availability of gas and ice.
The hot water in our cabin functioned limited to washing the dishes, but not well enough to get a shower.
On the plus side we practically had the island to ourselves .
Other than the issue with the hot water, none of the other things I have mentioned are under the control of the park service. You are always rolling the dice with the weather out there and my particular week was a loser.
But I will be back.

This was my first visit to the island but it will not be my last. Beautiful place with friendly

Definitely a bare bones cabin but still clean and very comfortable. Rangers were very friendly and helpful. Hum of generators is the only drawback to the experience. Would definitely go back though

I’ve always enjoyed bringing the kids over several times a year and staying in the cabins. We actually were really close to marking all the cabins off our list. The island is not what it used to be and is becoming less family/kid friendly. Rude park volunteers and harsh unfriendly Park Rangers that provoke and harass the tourist. It was really a shame such a beautiful peaceful place was ruined by the hostility and pessimism from the volunteers and park ranger. Island and accommodations (5 out of 5 stars), park staff customer service (1 out of 5 stars).

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fires & fuel
- Guests should obtain firewood locally and burn it on-site to protect forests; transporting firewood is illegal in some states.
