The water heater stopped working one night and the Park Maintenance people fixed it promptly the next morning, very satisfied with the quick response!

Have been coming to the island for 8 years now and this is the worst shape I have seen the cabins in. Cockroaches were everywhere, and the stove was barely working to the point of having to bring in our own stove.

The cabins are rustic but just what one needs to get out of the weather on Core Banks. The rangers and volunteers were friendly and very helpful. We will be back.

The park office said the cabin had Roaches, but had been treated. The entire cabin had Roaches especially the OVEN.
The cabin has Bed Bugs as well. Everyone has the bite marks. Bugs were in the corner of the wood on the boards and frame of the bed.
The hot water ( water less tank ) lasted 10 seconds for every shower taken. Even when flowing the instructions on the wall. Run the sink hot water at the same time as running the hot water in the shower. Posted on FB Capelookout fishing page. 97 response with several people who had stayed in cabin 18 and ones after us. They all said the same thing. For the money, $120.00 a night I would be embarrassed knowing that I had been informed about it and still allowed people to stay. I am not a tent person but I will now but before I ever get a cabin again.

Visit the lighthouse.
Get up early to see the sunrise.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fires & fuel
- Guests should obtain firewood locally and burn it on-site to protect forests; transporting firewood is illegal in some states.
