We stayed for two nights, Friday and Saturday after Veterans Day.. Weather was chilly but nice. Campsites aren't very deep and are fairly close together. There are a lot of trees but the sites are so close together there isn't a lot of privacy. The majority of people there had campers, I'd say at least 3/4. The rest were tents. There were a few empty sites but the campground was fairly full. The beach trail and access are still closed from hurricane damage. The "trail" is actually a paved walking path, wide enough for bicycles if you wanted to. If you're looking for a "hiking" trail, this isn't it, but good for small kids, strollers, or those with disabilities. The older bathroom at one end of the campground is closed and locked, so there is one newer bathroom/bathhouse at the other end of the campground. One urinal and one stall in the bathroom and private individual showers. Bathrooms were clean. There aren't a lot of things to do nearby unless you go into Morehead City, about a 15 minute drive. If you're staying at the campground to just hang out and get some peace and quiet, this may not be a good place to do that.

Great place. Wish we could get all the trials cleared out. Other than that. It’s beautiful there. And lovely management.

Campground is very nice. Lots of trails to hike and bike. The lack of beach access is disappointing. A staircase to the beach instead of a fence blocking it would be nice.

Very enjoyable stay. Great place to walk on paved trails.

The host would like us to ask for a larger toilet paper holder. The small rolls don't last very long.
We would like to suggest putting some kind of covers over the screens to keep the showers & bathrooms warmer in the colder season. Then add heaters.
It would be nice to have the beach access repaired.

The campground is wonderful and would be a full five star review if it were fully open. One of the main draws of the campground is the beach access to the river to fish and launch Kayaks. Once this is opened I would rate this as one of the best we have found.

Look at the Map before you book your reservation. This campsite is very close to MCAS Cherry Point - a military air station - that means loud military jets flying overhead. The noise stopped before 8PM, but overall it was not conducive to a relaxing camping experience. There is another campground 35 miles further away from the air station and just as close to the water.
