We stayed in mid October. It was quiet and clean. The trails were super close and I loved them. It is too bad there is no current beach access but there are a few points where you can catch a nice view.

Nice, quiet campground. Close to beaches on Atlantic, Havelock, and New Bern. Havelock has a super Walmart, five miles away, so that is convenient. Clean showers and bathrooms. Plenty of hot water. Campground is kept clean with no issues. Hwy 70 East is being rebuilt so traffic can be somewhat daunting. The only negative and this is not the campground's fault, get the beach open! Stayed at site 35 with 27-foot trailer.

Campsite #21 was okay, nothing stellar. Trails were nice. New Bern is great and campground only about 15 minutes away.

Nice, clean, quite, Clean bathrooms
Was not able to go to the beach or view much of the Neuse River due to Hurricane Florence damage that is still not fixed.

My husband and I stayed at Flanner’s Beach campground for a week. We came down from Asheville to help my brother who has dementia and has become homeless. I bought him a tent and all the things he would need to stay for two weeks. He is now in a shelter and being cared for by compassionate attendants in Jacksonville, NC. The hosts went above and beyond their acceptance of him, even when his Demetrius showed up in less-than-acceptable behaviors. I will absolutely camp there again. It’s s beautiful campground, on the banks of the Neuse River. We took our dog for walks and enjoyed meeting several other friendly campers. There’s ample vegetation between sites, and clean bathhouses with warm water. It’s a great place to go camping!

This campground is so cozy and peaceful. My campsite, #9, like most of the sites, was so enclosed by trees that it was very private. It's located just across from the bathhouse, which was quite a convenience; the comings and goings of other campers was not at all disruptive; I really never noticed them.
The woodland trails are delightful, and it's nice to bike ride out to Hwy. 70. I would very much like to be able to go down to the beach, and so I look forward to the Forestry Service completing the Hurricane Florence cleanup so that the beach will be accessible. Even without being able to go down to the actual beach, the views across the Neuse River from the picnic area are magnificent.
My one suggestion would be to leave the gate open during the daylight hours, so that campers don't have to get in and out of their cars to open and close the gate each time they leave and re-enter the campground.

Nice until we met the hosts pointing sticks at us and yelling at us. Very odd and unacceptable. Claimed we were speeding when clearly we were not. You need new hosts . Very sloppy people. There seems like a lot of complaints about them confronting guests in an unprofessional manner. No toilet paper the entire time in the rest rooms.
