The campground is small but very well kept. The trails and river beach are nice and relaxing. The camp host Paul is an absolute professional. He's concerned for his campers, he is knowledgeable about all things nature and knows everything about camping. He's very helpful, and makes it easy for a first time camper to learn the ropes. The directions to the campground online and Google maps however, are both wrong and desperately need to be corrected.

The camp host was awesome. He met us at arrival and helped us get into a shadier site than what I booked.
I read in reviews that Flanners Beach was closed, but it is now open. Very pretty but unfortunately had some dead fish wash ashore from (apparently) high temps creating too much algae.
Google maps can't help you as it can't find the location. Waze works well, as did my Garmin GPS (although it showed the entrance about a quarter mile too early...Just keep driving.)

We've camped at Flanner's Beach Campground half a dozen times, it's a beautiful place. Our experience with the camp host has always been positive. Even though the facilities are getting a little older they are well maintained. The hiking trails are awesome and you are a short drive from New Bern a town rich in significant history with great dinning and even loads of shopping (if that's what you're into... AKA my bride:) Check it out on UTube you get great bang for the buck staying here.

Loved our site, which was long and very private. Really wish it had a water hookup though. I was delighted to see a crew of young people finally clearing overgrown areas. It was desperately needed.
My biggest complaint about this park is always that nowhere, not even in the picnic area, can the beautiful water be seen at all. Everything between the park and the view is seriously overgrown. It just shouldn't be like this!

A good power wash would really help the bath house. The cobwebs are excessive. The trash should also be emptied more often. I realize we were probably there in the off season, but still, maintaining the bath house ought to be a high priority. We would stay here again, but would love to see it in better condition. The campsite itself was good.
Thank you
