I had the campground mostly to myself on the evening of December 24th, and it was spectacular. The weather was clear enough that I could see the Milky Way.

A hidden gem for sure. Off season is very private although a lot of the facilities are closed including the potable water fill station just off site. Generators permitted on D loop 24-7 but A-C loops the quiet hours are 10pm-6am.

Traveled solo and felt safe, which is very important. Easy to book, easy to find, great camp sites with room between sites. Clean bathroom, grounds were kept up, no trash laying around and with the wind there, I was surprised. Beach access was great but in between the dunes from parking lot area to the water, you better wear shoes (sandals were not good, wished I had sneakers !! ) because on a 100* day that sand was unforgiving !!!! Your camping near the beach so be expecting wind even with the dunes there. It did calm down at night surprisingly and I was glad to have a rechargeable battery fan because that was a hot day and night.
Only stayed 1 night but look forward to my next stay.
Make sure you're you know the ferry schedule and always be there on time...I almost didn't get on the last ferry. I was 5min late and I thought my spot was reserved no matter when I arrived because I had already paid for my ticket, (as long as I got there before it left)... but that is not the case especially during busy season/holidays. Thankfully they let me on right at the end of loading.

My second stay at Ocracoke Campground. Tent camper, Gazelle T4 plus. Site was clean and well maintained. Bath house was very clean as well. Cold water only. Outdoor showers and potable water were off in winter so BYOW. Only ever camped in fall and winter so wasn't very crowded but, I'm sure it does get packed in the summer. Very quiet at night (when I was there). Great place to access beach, access ramps, access sound. Biking, walking, kayaking, fishing, shelling, oyster/clam harvest, bird watching, driving on beach (permit), fires on the beach, or head into town for shops, restaurants, charters. Overall, one of my favorite spots on the earth!.

Great campground with well maintained access to the beach. The local community was great to hangout with as well at the local bars.

The bathrooms were well maintained. I have tent camped with my family on the beach before and didn’t have flush toilets or running water so having both in a well maintained bathroom was excellent.

Really spectacular stars. Warm bathroom, never took the cold shower in December. Relatively close to good restaurant and brewery.
